Drift
Shape-Shifting PencilInspired by organic formed facets of sand drifts in the dessert, the Drift pencil is designed to slowly transform to fit the user. With a hexagonal back and triangular grip, this pencil starts geometric, and exaggerates it's form over time.
Designing this pencil began with a concept. I wanted to create something that would become one with the user over time. A special object that would grow and change with the user. Sketching soon followed in both pencil and clay to immediately get an idea of what this would look like in a 3D space. Digital modeling allowed for rapid prototyping to get the size and dimensions just right. Then the 3D print was cast in brass. After many attempts and a lot of trial and error, the final pencil body was created.
