The Impression bench was designed through the exploration memories. Upon initial encounter, the user is confronted by a quote, subtly stamped on inlaid brass. This alludes to the story of the bench, and what lies under the soft poplar plank. After time, these quotes will begin to fade, and eventually disappear. Wear patters will appear on the surface of the wood, and after many years, flecks of brass will begin to emerge from the surface.

Research began by trying to discovering the power of memories. How do we retain and recall memories? Drawing inspiration from scars and tattoos; created as you move through your life, and documented. Furthermore, looking at our senses, and how they play a significant role in memory retention. Sights, feelings, smells, sounds, and tastes can trigger memories almost immediately.
